Four die in Mityana taxi road accident

According to the police, the driver of the taxi that was speeding hit a pothole in the middle of the road and lost control, hitting the other taxi on the left side.

Four people died and 11 others were seriously injured and rushed to the hospital following a fatal accident along Kampala to Mityana road on Saturday morning.

In this accident, a commuter minibus taxi (Drone) registration number UBH 846 U heading to Mityana collided head on head with another taxi, registration number UBD 628 K, that was heading to Kampala from.

The accident occurred at Kiwawu, about 20 kilometers from Mityana to Kampala.

According to the police, the driver of the taxi that was speeding hit a pothole in the middle of the road and lost control, hitting the other taxi on the left side.

“The cause of this accident is the reckless driving of the driver of the Drone who was even speeding,” Racheal Kawala, the police spokesperson for Wamala Region said.

The injuried were rushed to Mityana and Kiwawu hospitals for medication.

Among the deceased were Asuman Bossa 24 from Buwalula in Malangala Sub County, Tinah Namugenyi 26 from Zigoti trading centre, plus a girl and boy aged around 7 years both.

Late afternoon the severely injured were transferred to Mulago. being referred by the medics as some relatives however gathered at the mortuary waiting for the bodies of the deceased.

The accident comes just a few days after another fatal accident claimed lives of over fourteen traders along the Mityana to Bukuya road.

Kawala noted that most of the victims in this accident that had been admitted were being discharged as they got well.
