On Saturday, the retired Bishop of Soroti Diocese, Dr Charles Bernard Obaikol Ebitu, tied the knot with his love, Carolyn Martins Akiror, in Katakwi district.

Obaikol, who was the third bishop of Soroti Diocese and hailed from Kilaki district, remarried following the death of his first wife, Margaret in April 2021, shortly after losing their son.

Saturday's wedding took place at St. Paul Anglican Church during a fully packed service.

Retired Bishop of Lango Charles Odurkami presided over the ceremony.

After exchanging their vows, the newly wedded couple kissed then hugged, drawing huge applause from the congregation.

"I am happy to introduce you, the church, to Dr. Charles Bernard Obaikol Ebitu and his lawfully wedded wife Carolyn Martins Obaikol," Bishop Odurkami told those in attendance.

The announcement sparked a medley of songs of praise and worship amid an electric atmosphere.

'Walk with him'

In his sermon, Odurkami advised Katakwi-born Carolyn to love Obaikol and to be by his side until death separates them.

"You are no longer an ordinary woman, but a wife of a bishop. Walk with him side by side and be his good companion and helper," came the presiding bishop's advice.

Ministers Hellen Adoa and Peter Ogwang attended the wedding ceremony.
