The family of fallen former Nabumali High School headteacher, Sam Mafabi, has called off his son’s wedding which was scheduled for Saturday so they can bury him that day.

Mafabi died of diabetes on Wednesday, leaving behind a wife, nine children and several grandchildren.

He died aged 73 at Divine Clinic in Budadiri, Sironko district.

His first cousin, John Wetaka, the councillor for the elderly in Sironko, told New Vision on Wednesday that Mafabi’s death left them at a loss for words.

"We have issues and we don't know how to resolve them. His son's wedding is on Saturday; we don't know whether to postpone his burial or his son's wedding. The elders will have to sit and decide on this," Wetaka said.

Now New Vision has been told by a family member that Robert Masaba aka Bob’s wedding will be scheduled later after his father’s burial.

“Confirmed burial of Mzee Canon Samuel Mafabi is November 27 in Buwesonga village in Buhugu Sub-county, Sironko. Bob’s wedding will be scheduled later,” the family member said on Thursday.

Mafabi, who was also the former headteacher of Sir Tito Winyi Secondary School in Hoima, was serving as the general secretary of the older persons' council in Buhugu Sub-county at the time of his death.

He was also serving as the head of the laity of Mbale North Diocese and a canon in the same church.
