First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Mrs Janet Museveni, is set to officially release the results of the end-of-programme assessments for the November/December 2024 technical and vocational education and training (TVET) examinations.

The release ceremony, according to Uganda Vocational and Technical Assessment Board (UVTAB) executive secretary Onesmus Oyesigye, will take place Thursday, July 24, 2025, at the National Skills Assessment Centre, Kyambogo Hill.

"A total of 31,890 candidates were registered for the November/December 2024 End-of-Programme Assessments across 573 centres. Of these, 12,111 were female and 19,779 male. The assessments were conducted between November 19 and December 18, 2024," Oyesigye said in a statement on Wednesday.

The assessments spanned a wide range of TVET programmes, including technical and vocational, business and humanities, and physical and biological sciences, offered at both certificate and diploma levels.

The release is a milestone for UVTAB, which is now fully operational following the recent reforms in Uganda's TVET sector.

The delay in releasing the results, initially scheduled for March 2025, was due to the absence of a fully constituted board, which created legal and administrative bottlenecks for UVTAB. With the new board now in place, the institution has resumed key operations, including timely release of examination results.

The restructuring follows the enactment of the TVET Act in March 2024, which overhauled Uganda’s skills assessment and accreditation system. The Act dissolved the former examination and certification bodies, including the Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board (UBTEB), Directorate of Industrial Training (DIT), Uganda Allied Health Examinations Board (UAHEB), and Uganda Nurses and Midwives Examination Board (UNIMEB).

These bodies have since been consolidated under the newly established TVET Council, which operates under the oversight of the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) and the TVET department at the education ministry.

UVTAB, one of the new institutions created by the Act, is tasked with assessing and certifying competences acquired through both formal and informal TVET programmes across Uganda. The board’s core mandate is to promote quality and relevance in vocational training, ensuring learners gain practical, market-relevant skills that enhance their employability.
