Emergency response teams under the Police’s 999 system were stretched across the Kampala Metropolitan Area on Saturday, responding to a string of fire incidents and accidents.
According to a situation report from the Emergency Response Unit (ERU) at the 999 Command and Control Centre, a total of four separate incidents involving fires and accidents were registered on July 12, 2025.
The first major emergency occurred at around 1:00 p.m. in Centenary Zone, Wabigaro, within Kabalagala Division, where a fire broke out in a residential house. Two fire trucks, supported by a 999 patrol vehicle, were dispatched to the scene.
“The fire was contained but caused severe damage to property. Fortunately, no deaths or injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains undetermined,” the report stated, referencing SD 07/12/07/2025.
Later in the evening, at approximately 8:00 p.m., another fire broke out in Namasuba Church Zone, Rubaga Division. A two-roomed residential house was gutted, though no injuries were reported.
“Preliminary investigations suggest a possible electrical short circuit,” the ERU noted, under reference SD 21/12/07/2025.
On the same day, police also responded to a serious road accident along Ntinda–Bukoto Road near Hardware World at about 8:00 p.m.
A victim who had fallen off a speeding motorcycle was rescued by police and rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital.
At around 10:45 p.m., a separate incident at Nakasero Market was captured on CCTV.
A drone motor vehicle lost control and knocked down three pedestrians.
“A 999 patrol vehicle, along with traffic officers and the motorcycle squad, responded swiftly and evacuated all three victims to Mulago,” the report stated.
