LIRA - Business at the Lira-based MTN Service Centre came to a standstill on Monday (August 29, 2022) morning following a fire that gutted the office on Sunday evening.

The service centre is located at Obote Avenue, near Voice of Lango Radio station in a house owned by Dokolo South MP Felix Okot Ogong.

Witnesses said the fire started from a workshop in the same block but was contained before it spread to other areas within the office.

Uganda Police Fire and Rescue team arrived and managed the fire before it could spread to other offices of Opportunity Bank.

The MTN managers in Lira were tight-lipped about the incident.

A team from Kampala arrived in the morning to assess the damage but by press time, no one was willing to remark.

Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Regional Police spokesperson of North Kioga, said there is a possibility of a short circuit due to power fluctuation, adding that investigations are ongoing.
