The “Banana” craze star, Fik Gaza, is in a spot of trouble after he was reported by a starlet to police over copyright infringement.
The barely-known Pain Da Black (real name Umar Ssemulangwa) on Wednesday reported a case at CPS (SD: 22/31/07/2024).
Pain alleges that Fik Gaza infringed on his copyright for the song, “Enjaga”.
In his statement, he makes reference to Fik Gaza’s song, “Enyama”.
According to Pain, the similarities between the two songs cannot merely be coincidental so Gaza stole it from him.
Fik Gaza advised Pain to focus on producing good music instead of tarnishing other people’s names.
He adds that while his song was released on July 14, 2024 and uploaded on youtube on July 22, 2024, Gaza’s song was uploaded on July 24, 2024.
However, Pain says that attempts to contact Fik Gaza have been futile, thus running to Police for help.
“I have failed to find him. I once contacted a member on Gaza’s team who only intimidated me about the matter. When I used a Tiktok video to gain his attention, his fans accused me of seeking for cheap popularity,” says Pain.
The Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed that the case had been reported.
“The police has started investigations into the matter,” he said when contacted.
He further advised artistes to opt for collaborations instead of copyright infringement.
You would have thought that Gaza would be wriggling in pain over the matter, but not for a person with such braggadocio.
He instead turned the guns on Pain.
“I am shocked that a person who sang about promoting marijuana (janga) reported a person who sang about food to the police,” he says.
For him, it is even beyond shock that the police have not arrested him for promoting the use of an illicit drug.
According to Gaza, Nyama was composed by Kofi, the same person responsible for his other songs like “Banana”, “Sanyu Sanyu” and “Olunyata”.
He says the song was recorded in June although it was released towards the end of July.
He advised Pain to focus on producing good music instead of tarnishing other people’s names.
