WAKISO - Police in Nsangi, Kyengera Town Council in Wakiso district, were on Wednesday holding an 18-year-old girl for allegedly stabbing her colleague in the back, killing her instantly.

Arinda Swabura is facing murder charges after she allegedly used a knife to fatally stab her colleague, Grace Anyima, 18, during a fight.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, August 12, at around 5:00 pm at Dema Bakery in Rabai Estate, Kyengera Town Council, where the two girls were working.

According to Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, the two girls developed serious misunderstandings over who was supposed to use a charcoal stove for cooking during the evening chores.

According to police reports, a “fight erupted over a shared charcoal stove, where Swabura (Arinda) removed Grace's (Anyima) saucepan from the fire to first boil water.”

“The situation escalated, and Arinda allegedly stabbed Anyima in the back. Despite attempts by colleagues to rush her to the hospital, she unfortunately succumbed to her injuries,” Onyango explained.

He said detectives from Nsangi Police Division rushed to the scene after receiving a tip-off and found Grace's body still lying where she had been stabbed, with a cut wound on her left upper back.

Police also recovered the green-handled knife suspected to have been used in the attack, which had what appeared to be blood stains, near the body. There were also signs of a scuffle at the scene.

The suspect was escorted to Nsangi Police Station, where detectives obtained relevant statements from her.

“This incident highlights the importance of conflict resolution and managing disputes peacefully. The police are continuing their investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the murder,” Onyango said, noting that the incident had left colleagues in great shock.
