Fasting is path to salvation, says Christ the King Church's Msgr Kalumba

Hundreds of Catholics gathered early this morning at Christ the King Church in Kampala to receive ashes as they marked Ash Wednesday, which is the beginning of the Lenten season of fasting and prayer.
Ash Wednesday officially launches the 40 days of fasting, repentance and spiritual reflection leading to Easter.
Christ the King Church parish priest Msgr Gerald Kalumba led the mass and prayed for the faithful to begin their fasting journey with commitment and faith.

In his sermon, Kalumba emphasised the importance of fasting as a path to salvation through Jesus Christ and urged Christians to fast sincerely from their hearts and not for public praise.
He reminded the congregation that God is always ready to forgive sins for those who genuinely repent and turn back to Him.
Kalumba also encouraged the faithful to dedicate their hearts to God during this period so that He may strengthen them, help them complete the fasting successfully and overcome the temptations of Satan.
Ash Wednesday is observed by Catholics worldwide as a sign of repentance, where ashes are placed on believers’ foreheads to remind them to turn away from sin and renew their faith.
