Fallen Kalangala district woman legislator sails home in silence

As the hearse carrying Nakimuli's casket was loaded onto the water vessel, what is usually a routine three-and-a-half-hour journey turned into a moving tribute, each wave echoing the pain of loss felt by a nation.

The fallen Woman Member of Parliament representing Kalangala District has taken her final voyage aboard MV Kalangala, this time not standing in strength but resting silently in a casket.

As the vessel pulled away at around 2:30 pm, a quiet sorrow hung in the air.

She was accompanied by fellow legislators Betty Ethel Naluyima, the Woman MP for Wakiso district, Moses Kabuusu of Kyamuswa County, and Theodore Ssekikubo of Lwemiyaga Constituency.

As the hearse carrying Helen Nakimuli's casket was loaded onto the water vessel, what is usually a routine three-and-a-half-hour journey turned into a moving tribute, each wave echoing the pain of loss felt by a nation.

Her absence now leaves a silence that words struggle to fill. But in the hearts of those she loved, Nakimuli's legacy will not fade. It will live in every life she touched, every voice she uplifted and every hope she helped nurture.

According to the funeral arrangement programme released by Parliament, Nakimuli will be accorded a special session of the Kalangala District Council and a public viewing tomorrow (Tuesday) before the body is taken back to Kampala via the Masaka route.

On Wednesday, April 22, the body will be at Parliament, after which it will be taken to the National Unity Platform headquarters in Kavule for party members to pay their last respects, followed by a vigil at the family home in Namungoona.

Thursday will bring both closure and heartbreak. A funeral service at the Orthodox Church in Namungoona will precede her final journey to Luwero, where she will be laid to rest at her family's grounds in Luwero district.

There, the soil will receive a woman whose life was rooted in service, resilience and compassion.

As the country continues to come to terms with the sudden passing of the Kalangala District Woman MP, Nakimuli, social media remains filled with memories and stories of a young leader who connected with her generation.

Born in Lukuba village, Kyamuswa subcounty, Nakimuli rose from humble beginnings to become one of Kalangala’s most impactful leaders.
