Entebbe couple murder still a priority for CID, says AIGP Magambo

“That case remains a priority, and when a breakthrough is made, we shall update the public,” the CID boss posted on his X, formerly Twitter, handle on Thursday (February 26).

The Director of the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID), Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Tom Magambo, has said that the murder case of a retired couple in Entebbe Municipality, Wakiso district, eight months ago remains a priority for investigators.

David Mutaaga, 69, and his wife, Deborah Florence Mutaaga, 62, were reportedly found stabbed to death in their home on July 7, 2025.

“That case remains a priority, and when a breakthrough is made, we shall update the public,” the CID boss posted on his X, formerly Twitter, handle on Thursday (February 26).

Magambo was responding to an X post by former Police political commissar Asan Kasingye, who said the case had become complicated since the killer remains at large.

“Not forever though. I believe in @CID1_UG. The killer won’t hide forever,” said Kasingye, who officially retired in September 2022 at the rank of AIGP.

“I actually know how much the Police are putting in to get them. I stay in Entebbe and I am privy to the efforts on ground,” he added in another post.

On September 15, 2025, police announced a sh60m reward for reliable information leading to the arrest of the suspect, who was captured on CCTV entering the couple’s home.

Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke told the media that public cooperation remains critical in resolving such high-profile cases.

“We call on anyone with reliable leads to come forward. All information will be treated with the highest level of confidentiality, and the informant’s safety will be fully guaranteed,” he said at a press conference, during which he announced the bounty of sh60m, increased from the initial sh50m.

The couple, who had returned from Switzerland, had retired to their new home in Entebbe when they were allegedly murdered.
