Embrace physical activity, public told

The Ministry of Health has urged the public to embrace physical activities in order to prevent themselves from getting non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
The call was made by the State Minister for Primary Healthcare, Margaret Muhanga, on Wednesday, June 14, while announcing the 3rd edition of the National Day of Physical Activity, which will take place on Sunday at the Kololo Independence Grounds.

NCDs, also known as chronic diseases, are not passed from person to person. They include heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes and chronic lung disease.
She said there will be free health education and screening of NCDs among others.
She reminded the public to eat a balanced diet and desist from eating junk foods.
Dr Charles Oyoo, the commissioner for non-communicable diseases in the health ministry, said NCDs contribute 41% of the deaths that occur in health facilities.
He said the top leading NCDs are cardiovascular diseases including heart disease, stroke and hypertension.
