_______________
Three sisters and five other Catholic sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Reparatrix, popularly known as the Ggogonya Sisters, took their perpetual vows on January 4, 2025, during a Holy Mass led by the Archbishop of Kampala Archdiocese, Paul Ssemogerere.
Archbishop Ssemogerere was assisted by the chairman of the Episcopal Conference and Bishop of Kiyinda-Mityana, Dr Joseph Anthony Zziwa, the Emeritus Papal Nuncio to Belgium, Archbishop Augustine Kasujja, as well as several priests and monsignors from different dioceses in Uganda.
During his homily, Archbishop Ssemogerere urged the sisters to adhere to their vows, reminding them that their decision meant following Jesus Christ and living a life of holiness.

He congratulated the sisters who made their vows, saying each one of them had said yes to serving God as consecrated women religious. “I congratulate you all who made perpetual, silver, and diamond jubilees of the service of religious life.”
During the same Mass held at their mother house at Ggogonya in Kisubi, four nuns of the same congregation celebrated their silver jubilee, while one celebrated her Diamond Jubilee since joining the Order. The congregation undertakes to form women who, while adjusting to the signs of the times, continuously evangelise God’s people by teaching catechism in word and deed, especially to children and women, and by witnessing to Christ through their vowed life in all their apostolate.
In all their ministries, including schools, hospitals, social services and prayer, the IHMR sisters, following the example of the Blessed Virgin Mary, strive to unite themselves with the Immaculate Heart of Mary by doing God’s will in humility, charity and obedience as a sacrifice of reparation for the salvation of souls at their Kisubi home in Wakiso district.
The sisters who made perpetual vows were Mary Juliet Nalwayi from Kyazanga Parish in Masaka Diocese, Olivia Nabukalu from Katimba Parish in Masaka Diocese, and Veronica Nabirumbi from Kitaasa Parish in Masaka Diocese.
Those who celebrated their silver jubilee were Proscovia Nalyazi of Bunnamwaya Parish, Agnes Nakiganda of Bunnamwaya Parish, Theopista Namigga of Nakawuka Parish in Kampala Archdiocese, and Bernadette Prossy Nabachwa of Katete Parish in Kiyinda-Mityana Diocese.
The diamond jubilee was celebrated by Sister Angelica Nabakooza from Kkindu Parish in Masaka Diocese.
The function was held under the theme “In love and union with Mother Mary here I am, oh Lord, I come to do your will,” (CF. Heb. 10:7).

The mother general, Sister Dr Mary Speranza Namusisi, commended the parents of the sisters for surrendering their children to God and urged them to send more children to join the congregation.
On the same occasion, Sister Namusisi introduced the new congregation council under her leadership.
The Sisters of Ggogonya were founded in Uganda by Archbishop Henry Streitcher in 1927 and later elevated to a canonical organisation in the Church by Archbishop Louis Joseph Cabana in 1948. Both were white missionaries to Uganda.
