The ruler of Busoga kingdom (Kyabazinga), William Gabula Nadiope IV, has said investors in education in the monarchy help to promote "our ancestors' dream".

He said the kingdom prioritizes the education of its people and therefore investors also advance the vision of "an enlightened Busoga".

The Kyabazinga was on Friday officiating at the second graduation ceremony of Leura School of Nursing and Midwifery in Ibulanku sub-county, Bugweri district.

He was received at the institution by Busoga kingdom's prime minister Dr. Joseph Muvawala, the school's executive director Sulaiman Lule, principal Francis Najjuko Mulumba and benefactor Paul Lukabyo.

A procession followed — from the school’s administration block to the venue as the grey suit-clad king waved to the students and guests.

He conferred certificates to a total of 296 nurses and midwives, who completed their studies in June and December 2022, and June 2023.

Commending the school management in his speech, the Kyabazinga said the institute has greatly contributed to the educational and social development of not only Bugweri but Busoga in general.

He also thanked the various stakeholders for the technical guidance, direction and support to help keep the school on course.

"I am as well impressed that this institute does not only concentrate on academics but also creates a conducive atmosphere, which promotes the physical, spiritual and socio-cultural development of the students," said the Kyabazinga.

He pointed to the school's success in sports, freedom of worship and promotion such cultural associations as Abasoga Nseete and Nkobazambogo."

More importantly, the Busoga monarch urged the graduates to live responsibly and be patriotic, civil, ethical and culturally well-groomed.

The school's executive director, Sulaiman Lule, said male students who graduated in nursing increased to 42% compared to the previous percentage of under 40%.

The school started operating in November 2017 and its enrollment has been increasing since then.

As many as 11o students were pioneer graduates, with the second graduation seeing that number nearly doubled.
