ZANZIBAR - The upcoming biennial Commonwealth Law Ministers Meeting is scheduled to take place in United Republic of Tanzania’s tourism city of Zanzibar from March 4 to 8, 2024.
Tanzania is a member of the East African Community which comprises many other countries including Uganda, Kenya, DR Congo, Somalia, South Sudan, Burundi, and Rwanda.
With a staggering two-thirds of the world's population lacking meaningful access to justice, the focus of the meeting will center on exploring responsible methods of utilizing technology to enhance the accessibility of legal services and information for all individuals.
This significant gathering will assemble law ministers and attorney generals from the 56 commonwealth member countries, providing a platform for deliberating recent legal advancements within their respective jurisdictions.
The primary objective is to catalyze actionable strategies for fostering people-centered access to justice, particularly targeting the 2.5 billion Commonwealth citizens.
Notably, the meeting will witness the announcement of key commitments and novel initiatives, with a particular emphasis on advancing universal access to justice, safeguarding the rights of women and girls against violence, and addressing the legal ramifications of climate change legislation.
