Busitema University Council has appointed Dr. Saphina Biira as the institution's Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Finance and Administration.

The University Secretary, Abert Matsiko Mutungwire, in a letter to all staff and students dated October 6, communicated the Council's new decision.

"Following the decision by the 59th Busitema University Council sitting held on September 30, 2022, and pursuant to Section 32 (4) of the University and other Tertiary Institution's Act, 2001 and Human Resource Manual 2021. 

This release is to notify that Dr. Biira has been appointed Deputy Vice Chancellor on recommendations of council for a period of six months with effect from October 3, 2022," Matsiko disclosed.

The assistant director in the directorate of institutional advancement, Dr. Charles Muweesi, explained that the University Council realized there was a lot of workloads and took the decision to appoint another deputy VC.

This comes at a time when the University is marking 15 years.

Biira has been the deputy director in the directorate of quality assurance, a senior lecturer of physics and a member of the University Senate and its committee.

She also sits on the University development committee.

Biira holds a postgraduate diploma in monitoring and evaluation, Uganda Management Institute, PhD in physics, from University of Pretoria, South Africa, Masters of Science (physics) Makerere University, among others.
