The Vicar General of Kampala Archdiocese (and also parish-priest of Christ the King Church, Kampala), Msgr. Gerald Magella Kitatta Kalumba has encouraged Christians to nurture a culture of gratitude, which he said must stand in all situations.
He said it was wrong for a Christian believer to frequent the church for prayers in times of difficulty, but when they are prosperous, they forget about God, who remains their creator and sustainer even when they are in trouble.
Fr. Timothy Lukananso (extreme right) blesses Christians as they made procession to donate money for SAAFU.
“God is always faithful. He cannot abandon His people. Don’t turn to him only when you have problems. Even in times of serious challenges and troubles, be mindful to thank Him. After all, He is the one who gave you life,” Kalumba said.
He was presiding over the launching of the Ssabasumba Annual Appeal Fund (SAAFU), Mitala-Maria Vicariate Chapter at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, Mitala-Maria, in Mpigi district on Sunday, October 5, 2025.

SAAFU is a special self-reliance cash pool, which the Archbishop of Kampala uses to do various activities/projects of the archdiocese without necessarily depending on foreign aid.
According to Msgr. Kalumba, the money collected this year will be used to construct a home for elderly and sickly priests. The facility will also benefit lay people, who will need its services.

During the function, the Christians of Mitala-Maria Vicariate donated sh75m. The donations came from the various parishes in the vicariate, including Bujuuko (sh2.5m), Ggoli (sh3m), Jjanya (sh2.5m), Katende (sh40.5m), Kibanga (sh2.5m), Kkonge (sh2m), Muduuma (sh10m) and Mpigi (sh3.5m).
