DOKOLO BYELECTION

DOKOLO - President Yoweri Museveni is expected in Dokolo district on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, to campaign for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party flag-bearer Adongo Janet Rose Elau.

Adongo is campaigning for the Dokolo District Woman Member of Parliament seat, which fell vacant early this year after the passing on of Cecilia Ogwal. The byelection is slated for Thursday this week.

Museveni, who is also the chairperson of the ruling party, is scheduled to address two rallies, one in Dokolo North at Atabu Primary School and another for Dokolo South at Amatiburu Primary School.

According to sources within the NRM camp, the President is expected to welcome Dr Grace Hannah Lalam and Rebecca Arao both independent candidates who stepped down in favour of the party flag-bearer Adongo.

The development, if it is achieved, will bring down to five the number of candidates battling to replace Ogwal.

The candidates still in the race are Sarah Aguti Nyangkori of the Uganda People’s Congress, Cecilia Ogwal's daughter Dr Rosemary Alwoc Ogwal of the Forum for Democratic Change and Adongo of NRM, Harriet Ageno of the National Unity Platform and Dr Esther Akullo Obot, an independent candidate.

The battle line for the seat is among three candidates, Aguti of UPC, Adongo of NRM, and Alwoc of FDC. Bigwigs of these three political parties have since pitched camp in Dokolo trying to gather support for their candidates.

The campaign for the byelection kicked off on March 14, 2024, and is ending today, March 19, then voting on March 21.
