The Permanent Secretary to the Judiciary, Pius Bigirimana, has threatened to ask all landlords to close court buildings over the continued failure by Ministry of Finance, to avail the funds required for the payment of rent.
Bigirimana says the delay forces him to divert funds meant for other activities in the Judiciary budget to clear rent arrears.
He made the remarks while appearing before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee where he had been summoned to respond to queries raised in the 2024 Auditor General’s report, that indicated that Judiciary spent sh790m on payment of rent arrears yet the said funds hadn’t been included in the Institution’s annual budget.
