MPS || SWEARING CEREMONY
KAMPALA - The 12th Parliament of Uganda today, May 15, 2026, has entered its third and last day of swearing in of new legislators.
The ceremony, which kicked off on Wednesday, has so far seen 354 legislators sworn in by Thursday, more than half of the August House, as the exercise ends.
By the close of business today, 175 legislators shall have been sworn in to join their counterparts who did so in the last two days.
Composed of 529 Members of Parliament (MPs), the sworn-in legislators will convene on May 25 next week to elect the Speaker among themselves and the Deputy Speaker.
Among the 529 legislators, 372 (70.3%) are from the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party, 68 are Independents, 49 are from the National Unity Platform (NUP), nine are from the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), 12 are from the Uganda People’s Congress, and six are from the Democratic Party.

Older persons Member of Parliament for Eastern Uganda in the 12th Parliament, Ofwono Opondo, has been sworn in today. Opondo was sworn in alongside his family.

National Unity Platform's (NUP) Patrick Nsamba Oshabe has been sworn in as the Member of Parliament for Kassanda North Constituency. He was in company of his family and friends.

NRM's Cissy Dionizia Namujju, the woman representative for Lwengo District in Uganda's eleventh parliament, has been sworn in for another term in the 12th parliament.

Hoima City Woman Member of Parliament Asinansi Nyakato, also known as Kamanda, has taken oath.

Annet Oyes Nnamara Byamukama, the NRM Woman Member of Parliament for Buhweju district, has taken oath.

Gomba district Woman Member of Parliament Sylvia Nayebale, swearing in for her third term. The NRM legislator was first elected to the same seat in the 10th Parliament (2016 to 2021). She was re-elected in 2021 in the same position and now returned for her third term.

National Unity Platform's (NUP) Muwada Nkunyingi has been sworn in as the Member of Parliament for Kyadondo County East constituency in Wakiso District.

Independent Kotido District Woman Member of Parliament, Nuria Hasfa Teko, has been sworn in. The Legislator beat NRM's incumbent Margret Aleper Achila, to attain the seat.
