According to a statement issued by Chief Registrar Sarah Langa-Siu on April 12, 2024, during the National Court Open Day which is slated to take place at the Kololo Independence Grounds, the courts will be closed to allow judicial officers to attend the function.

The courts will remain closed on Monday (April 15, 2024) during the National Court Open Day function.

According to a statement issued by Chief Registrar Sarah Langa-Siu on April 12, 2024, during the National Court Open Day which is slated to take place at the Kololo Independence Grounds, the courts will be closed to allow judicial officers to attend the function.

“This is to inform you that all the Judicial officers of the Supreme Court, Court of Appeal, High Court Divisions and Magistrate’s Courts in and around Kampala will be attending the events,” Langa said.

Langa, however, clarified that the registries the courts will remain open for purposes of clarification on pending matters. She urged the public to attend the function starting at 8:00 am.

 Why National Court Open Day

According to the notice from the judiciary, there will be interaction with the general public on April 15, 2024, at the Kololo Independence Grounds on different issues relating to the administration of justice.

The Judiciary notes that the upcoming National Court Open Day is designed to enhance the judiciary's performance by soliciting feedback from the public.

The Judiciary urged the public to take the opportunity to attend the open day and provide feedback on how the courts can enhance performance in dispensing justice.

The occasion will be marked under the theme: A People-Centred Approach to Justice. Improving a people-centred approach to justice involves prioritising the needs, experiences, and rights of individuals within the legal system.

Court’s structures

The court comprises the Criminal Division of the High Court, the Anti-Corruption Court Division, the International Crimes Division, the Civil Division, the Family Division and the Industrial Court and Commercial Division of the High Court. The courts are headed by different judges.
