Owiny-Dollo said today’s graduation is special because it is the first time that Pepperdine University is graduating students from its campus.

Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo and several judicial officers have graduated with master’s degrees in dispute resolution from Pepperdine University.

The graduation ceremony took place at the High Court in Kampala at 2:00 pm.



Other graduands include Deputy Chief Justice Richard Buteera, Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister Nobert Mao, Supreme Court Judge Mike Chibita, and Court of Appeal’s Justice Geofrey Kiryabwire.

Others are High Court judge Richard Wabwire Wejuli, Paul Wolimbwa Gadenya, Rachel Odoi Musoke, the Senior Technical Advisor, Governance and Security Programme Secretariat, the Solicitor General, Francis Atoke, Francis Gimara, the chairperson of Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets (PPDA) Appeals Tribunal and Judiciary Technical Advisor Prof. Andrew Khaukha.



Pepperdine University is a private research university affiliated with the Churches of Christ with its main campus in Los Angeles County, California. However, it intends to open a campus in Uganda.

On Sunday, Owiny-Dollo treated a delegation from Pepperdine University to a sumptuous dinner ahead of the graduation ceremony.



Prof Sukhsumranjit Singh, a member of the faculty in the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) masters class thanked the Chief Justice for hosting the Pepperdine University delegation to the dinner.

Present at the dinner were graduates of the 2022/24 class of the Master’s Degree in Dispute Resolution and Certificate of International Commercial Arbitration of Pepperdine University.



At the same function, Prof DeWalt handed over to the graduates their graduation gowns ahead of their graduation ceremony.

The Chief Justice thanked the Pepperdine family for honouring the invitation to attend the dinner.



Owiny-Dollo said today’s graduation is special because it is the first time that Pepperdine University is graduating students from its campus.

He thanked Pepperdine University for the impact that the training will have in the quest to revert to the original dispute resolution mechanism.



Uganda has since revived the ADR mechanism in the administration of justice.
