City lawyer detained over shooting private guard

In a tragic incident at Kings Park Rugby Club, Kakajjo Zone in Bweyogerere Division, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District, a watchman Nekeon Buruga, 37, lost his life due to a shooting on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 23:13pm.

The alleged suspect Sam Ahamya, a 47-year-old lawyer/advocate residing in Buziga, Makindye Division, Kampala District, went to the rugby club for leisure with his children earlier in the day.

Despite leaving his pistol at the entrance with a police officer while inside, the situation took a tragic turn when he retrieved the weapon around 22:00Pm.

Luke Owoyesigyire, the deputy Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson said: during an attempt to perform a Normal Safety Precaution (NSP) with the magazine still in the pistol, Ahamya allegedly accidentally shot and fatally injured Buruga.

“The incident led to the opening of a murder case by the police,” according to Owoyesigyire.

Prompt police response ensued conducting a thorough scene investigation.

The killer weapon was recovered and secured for forensic analysis by the scene of crime officers while Ahamya, the suspect, is now in custody at Kira Police Division, according to Owoyesigyire.

He said the deceased's body has been taken to City mortuary for postmortem examination.

“Authorities are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting as they work to unravel the details leading up to this unfortunate event,” Owoyesigyre said
