The installation follows their election during the last diocesan council and marks a significant step in strengthening church leadership within the diocese.

The newly installed canons include Ven. Canon Oscar Mwesigwa, the Archdeacon of Bubaare Archdeaconry, Rev. Dr Jasper Tumuhimbise Mpiriirwe, the chief executive officer of Church Commissioners Holding Company Ltd, Rev. Canon Daniel Byamukama, the diocesan mission coordinator, Ven. Canon Norman Twakiire, the Archdeacon of Buhangizi Archdeaconry, and Ven. Canon Emmanuel Naamanya Bwagye, the Archdeacon of All Saints’ Archdeaconry.

During the ceremony, the clergy took an oath committing themselves to adhere to the roles, regulations, and canonical laws of the Church of Uganda, as well as to uphold government laws in the execution of their duties.

Addressing the congregation, Bishop Akanjuna tasked the newly installed canons with championing the spread of the Word of God and contributing to the spiritual and moral transformation of the Church. He emphasised the importance of integrity, commitment, and leading by example in their ministry.

He further called upon Christians to support the canons through prayer, urging them to remain steadfast in their calling and obedient to the Church’s guiding principles.

In his remarks, the head of laity in the Diocese of Kigezi, Canon Johnson Baryantuma Munono, urged the newly installed canons to remain humble, respectful, and firmly rooted in Jesus Christ, noting that this would enable them to effectively carry forward the mission of the Church.

Delivering the sermon, the dean of Ruharo Cathedral in Ankole Diocese, the Very Rev. Canon Bobs Nathan Mwesigye, emphasised the importance of accepting God’s calling with seriousness and dedication.

He encouraged the canons to fully commit themselves to God, maintain integrity, and avoid corruption as they serve in their new roles.

The Bishop reiterated that the newly appointed canons are expected to serve in accordance with the directives of the Church and faithfully fulfil the responsibilities entrusted to them.

The newly installed canons, speaking on behalf of their colleagues, expressed gratitude to God and the Church leadership for the honour bestowed upon them. They pledged to serve diligently and strengthen the Church’s mission.

The ceremony attracted a large congregation of Christians, clergy, and church leaders, who gathered to witness the installation and celebrate the milestone.
