Charcoal truck kills two at Kafu Bridge

Two people died on the spot and others were rushed to hospital with serious injuries after a truck carrying charcoal burst a tyre at Kafu Bridge along the Kampala-Gulu highway.

The accident occurred at around 6:50 am on Sunday, according to Faridah Nampiima, the public relations officer for the Traffic and Road Safety Directorate.

Nampiima described the accident as a single fatal accident involving motor vehicle registration number, UAW 416E, an Isuzu Forward that was loaded with charcoal from Gulu heading to Kampala. 

She said the truck had a burst tyre, forcing the driver to lose control. It killed two people on spot and critically injured two others.

Nampiima said the injured were rushed to Kiryandongo Hospital for treatment while the dead bodies were also conveyed to the same hospital for a postmortem examination.

She said the Police was yet to establish details of the deceased persons.
