As Christians celebrated the birth of Jesus Christ, the Bishop of Central Busoga Diocese, Rt. Rev. Patrick Wakula called upon residents to remain peaceful before and after voting day.
Wakula observed that the political race has attracted participants from various parties as well as independents, with every aspiring leader having their own followers.
According to him, such a mixture breeds seeds of disunity in society, as everybody has a constitutional right to support a candidate of their own choice.
“Let us emulate the newborn child who remained calm and peaceful even when provoked during his days on earth. Jesus would leave everything to God in prayer, and we should copy his example,” Wakula implored during his Christmas day sermon at All Saints Cathedral near CMS trading centre in Iganga district.
He warned parishioners that they should not take peace for granted, as it helps everyone achieve a lot, including developing homes, acquiring education and wealth.
“So, whatever the outcome of the polls, our duty should be to embrace the gospel of peace. After all, if we fight, where can many of us run to for refuge?” he asked.
New cathedral update
The bishop also updated the congregation about the works on the new cathedral complex, saying it was at the roofing stage. He thanked worshippers, well-wishers and friends of the church for their contributions.
Wakula disclosed that the diocese has a new archdeaconry of Nakalama that would become operational on January 1 next year.
Bamuleseyo elevated
“By the powers vested in me by the Church, I hereby elevate Ven. Can. Robina Bamuleseyo as the new dean of the diocese. She becomes the fourth female dean in the Province of the Church of Uganda,” he said, to applause from the congregation.
Bamuleseyo has been the vicar of All Saints Church and also serves in the capacity of sub-dean in the diocese. She thanked God for the promotion to the title of dean, expressing her readiness to serve the diocese under her new posting.
