KAMPALA - China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) has clarified that several road construction projects in Kampala being attributed to the company are in fact being undertaken by other contractors.
CCCC noted that remarks by Robinah Nabbanja, the Prime Minister, expressing disappointment over shoddy road contractors in the city were not directed at the company.
New Vision on Friday, March 13, 2026, in a story titled: ‘Nabbanja Furious Over Shoddy Work on City Roads’ reported that Nabbanja was furious at KCCA and CCCC over bad workmanship.
But CCCC, in a statement issued on Monday 16, March, 2026, said the criticism by Nabbanja was directed at other road contractors within the city.
KCCA contracted CCCC to upgrade and renovate roads under the Kampala City Roads Rehabilitation Project (KCRRP).
The project involves the rehabilitation of Sentema 1 and 2 roads, Masiro and Mugema roads on Lot 5.
“What the New Vision reported was about other roads, like Kyebando Ring and New Port Bell Road, which were not undertaken by CCCC”.
CCCC has explained that the overall project completion reached over 80% completion by February 2026. Furthermore, the works are being carried out in accordance with the contract specifications.
The company added that Lot 5, which commenced on 8th August 2023, is expected to be completed in May 2026.
“Therefore, there is no slow progress issue and shoddy work in the Lot 5 project, and the Prime Minister's criticism pointed to other subcontractors rather than CCCC,” read the statement.
