Patrick Mujuni, 37, a suspect from Kijunjubwa cell in Kijunjubwa town council, Masindi district, has died from Masindi Central Police Station cells.

The deceased's brother, Paul Tinkamanyire, on October 3, 2024, told New Vision Online that he was informed in the morning by the officer in Charge of the criminal investigations department, Simon Peter Ochiti how his relative had died.

Tinkamanyire added that Mujuni who was operating a small bar and a butchery was arrested on Sunday last week by the  Police.

According to Tinkamanyire, Mujuni was arrested after a misunderstanding with a customer over money which resulted in a fight.

He added that Mujuni had been charged with robbery of shillings one million and assault noting that they tried to get Police bond in vain.

"What has pained me most is to be told that his death resulted from the fight he had with his colleagues in the cells. We need the Police Standard Unit and human rights organisations to intervene such that we  get justice," Muhumuza said.

Albertine Police region spokesperson Julius Allan Hakiza confirmed that Mujuni had died in cells.

However, Hakiza said that the suspect is suspected to have taken his own life.

By the time of filing the story, Mujuni's body had been taken to Masindi government hospital for postmortem.
