Busitema storms Ultimate University Quiz semis after dramatic comeback against ISBAT

Busitema University delivered one of the most spirited comebacks of Season Three of the Ultimate University Quiz on Saturday, 15 November, overturning a shaky mid-game performance to defeat ISBAT University 360 to 230 and secure a place in the semi-finals.

The quarter-final clash, Game 13, which aired from the Net Studios Africa arena, opened with high stakes as both institutions competed for a coveted position among Uganda’s top four universities.

The quiz is sponsored by Bank of Uganda, brought to viewers by Vision Group and powered by Net Studios Africa.

Busitema takes early command

The show began with the Science and Technology round, where Busitema immediately seized control. Their team, comprising students from engineering, medicine and water resource programmes, moved through the questions with confidence.

ISBAT University, represented by a trio from engineering and medical imaging programmes, struggled to match Busitema’s pace.

Despite securing a few correct responses, ISBAT fell behind early as Busitema capitalised on nearly every rebound question.

By the end of Round One, Busitema led comfortably with 130 points while ISBAT trailed with 50.

Round Two: ISBAT fights back

The General Knowledge round provided ISBAT with their opportunity to respond. The team answered sharply on regional, global and contemporary issues, gradually chipping away at Busitema’s lead.

Busitema, however, held their composure. Their strength in political, civic and geographical knowledge allowed them to maintain a steady advantage despite the pressure.

Round Two ended with Busitema on 200 points and ISBAT on 130, narrowing the margin but keeping Busitema firmly ahead.

Tension rises in literature and sports

Round Three, which combined African Literature and Sports, proved the most evenly contested. Both teams demonstrated impressive recall of authors, literary works, athletics milestones and continental sports figures.

ISBAT showed renewed energy and briefly appeared capable of levelling the match. Busitema, however, countered with quick and accurate responses, particularly in questions involving literary works and East African history.

By the close of the round, Busitema held a significant but still manageable lead of 280 to ISBAT’s 180.

Busitema’s revival

The final round was a rapid-fire science segment requiring uninterrupted answering of fast-paced questions. It was here that the match took its most dramatic turn.

ISBAT attempted a final push, but Busitema returned with renewed determination. Their accuracy, speed and confidence quickly widened the gap, putting the result beyond ISBAT’s reach.

At full-time, the scoreboard displayed Busitema University with 360 points and ISBAT University with 230.

Busitema’s resurgence in the final round not only secured their victory but also highlighted their depth and strategic calm under pressure.

With this win, Busitema University progresses to the semi-finals of Season Three, joining the elite group competing for prizes that include equipment worth 25 million shillings for the winning university, as well as laptops, cash prizes and additional rewards for teams finishing in second and third place.
