Bukedea Comprehensive School, one of Uganda's representatives at the ongoing ISF Schools Football World Cup in Dalian City, China, are through to the quarter-finals after seeing off Germany 2-0 on Wednesday.

Yusuf Ssebumpenje’s 10th-minute strike together with Reagan Ssekisambu’s headed goal on 31 minutes ensured that the Teso-based side accrued maximum points in its three matches to top Group F ahead of the Germans, playing their fourth and final group game, on a head-to-head basis.

Coach Ronald Ssali’s charges will attempt to secure maximum points when they meet Mexico on Thursday but can reserve their energy for the quarterfinal tie against England who are in Group E.

“We are happy to have reached this far in our first appearance in a championship of this level and as we head to the quarterfinals, we have to keep our focus on scoring and also defending well,” said Ssali.

Bukedea now joins Group G leaders Amus College who on Tuesday booked their quarterfinal ticket after beating Kenya 2-0 in their final group game and will meet Turkey who has come out of Group H with maximum points from three games.

Uganda's other side, St Mary's College Kisubi, today lost 3-0 to England, their third loss of the campaign and thus can no longer make it out of the group stages.

In the girls’ category, Amus College will need to beat the Czech Republic and then go all the way against Canada on Friday so they can top Group C ahead of leaders Nigeria who are on 7 points.

If Amus goes through, they will meet Kenya who top Group D with 7 points from 3 games before today’s action.
