Buganda kingdom premier (Katikkiro) Charles Peter Mayiga has implored Uganda Media Centre executive director Allan Kasujja to provide effective communication aimed at promoting government programmes.

According to Mayiga, the central government has a lot of programmes and policies yet very few of them are known by the majority of Ugandans.

“It all comes down to communication, how effectively do we communicate so that people can understand the advantages, the opportunities around them. Until people appreciate opportunities around, they can never develop. People always sit down and wait for assistance. It’s a terrible mentality yet opportunities do exist with the right communication, with effective communication, people will learn about these programmes and take advantage of them and change their lives,” Mayiga said.

He made remarks on May 6, 2026, when Kasujja and his team from the centre paid a courtesy visit to Buganda Kingdom’s headquarters at Bulange-Mmengo. The team hoped to devise ways of collaborating to enhance development in the country.

Mayiga noted the importance of communication which he said is the vehicle through which government, kingdom, institutions and companies, convey and implement programmes they have to the populace.

He added that leaders cannot be in every corner of their jurisdiction but with effective communication in place, people can easily understand the benefits they can derive from these initiated programs from the kingdom or government.

Katikkiro Mayiga urged Kasujja to use his vast experience to advise government officials to communicate appropriately and effectively to ensure that they build national unity, ensure that they make every Ugandan feel the country belongs to all of them and that it’s big for all of us.

“I think your biggest task is to see to it that the media centre makes every Ugandan feel that this country is big for all of us. We must learn to have discourse, listen to opposing views- they will always exist, we must always know how to handle them when they’re expressed,” said Mayiga.

Secondly, Mayiga advised that “The media centre should teach us to respect one another. That’s very important because that’s how you cement unity within a country and a united population makes huge strides in terms of social and economic advancement.”

Kasujja said that the institution is interested in communicating prosperity to all Ugandans, encouraging people to take up opportunities the country presents to its nationals.

“And we encourage people to move on, the political chapter is closed, the political season is shut we’re now focusing on development and we’re encouraging Ugandans to do that,” added Kasujja.

Kasujja promised to work with the Kingdom’s media centre to spread development message to all Ugandans since the kingdom is being followed by large numbers of Ugandans.

“We know that there is a media centre here but the question for us is how do we collaborate, how do we work together to make sure that the message is relayed not just in Buganda but also beyond that to the rest of the country because of course Buganda presents or offers examples to the rest of the country,” said Kasujja.

The kingdom minister in charge of information, mobilisation and the official spokesperson of the kingdom, Israel Kazibwe, said the collaboration between the two media centres is a welcome move where they will learn from one another.

Kazibwe noted that the kingdom is keen on enlarging and strengthening its media portfolios with modern technologies for effective communication and mobilization of Kabaka’s subjects.

Kasujja was in the company of Obed Katureebe, the public affairs office in charge of electronics, Charles Sseruga Matovu, Public Affairs officer in charge of events, Sarah Nanteza Kyobe, communication officer, Jackie Kasimbi- communication officer, Cathy Nmauddu- communication officer, and David Serumaga- Communication officer.
