Bobi Young, the bodyguard to National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, has asked the Criminal Division of the High Court to release him on bail, pending trial.
Anthony Agaba, aka Bobi Young, who is accused of being in possession of military uniforms, filed the bail application before Buganda Road Court in Kampala. He has spent nine months on remand at Luzira Prison.
Appearing before High Court Judge Emmanuel Baguma on August 11, 2025, Agaba, through his lawyers, said he was arrested on June 4, 2024, from his home in Mutungo, Kampala, and that he has been on remand since then.
Agaba, who was battling the charges at the General Court Martial, was represented by lawyers Shamim Malende, George Musisi and Samuel Muyizzi.
The lawyers informed the court that Agaba remains in custody because the trial of civilians was suspended at the military courts.
“I do not know when the case will be concluded,” he said.
Agaba pledged to abide by all the conditions imposed on him by the court and said he has a permanent residence in Mutungo zone II, Nakawa Division, Kampala.
He presented three sureties, including legislators John Paul Mpalanyi (Kyotera MP) and Dennis Ssekabira (Katikamu North County MP), to bail him out.
The prosecution asked the court to give them time to respond to Agaba’s bail application.
The judge gave the prosecution up to August 15 to respond to the bail application.
He will base on the arguments of the prosecution and the defence lawyers to craft his ruling, which he will deliver on August 22, 2025.
