The Synod on Synodality, initiated by Pope Francis earlier this month, is a two-year, worldwide undertaking during which Catholics will be encouraged to submit feedback to their local dioceses.

A synod is a meeting of bishops gathered to discuss a topic of theological or pastoral significance, in order to prepare a document of advice or counsel to the pope.

“Pope Francis wants us to join him in praying, listening, discerning, examining ourselves personally, and the Church communally, to see if we’re truly on the path Jesus has set for His beloved bride, His mystical body, the Church,” Ssemogerere said.

Ssemogerere asked all the Catholic Dioceses across to inaugurate the synodal journey at local level with the theme “For a Synodal Church, Communion, participation, and mission,” as they prepare for the upcoming 16th Synod of Bishops in 2023.

Ssemogerere was assisted by different priests including Chancellor, Fr Dr Pius Male Ssentumbwe, Cathedral Administrator, Fr Achilles Mayanja, among others.

The Bishop explained that synodality aims at, “Walking together and listening to one another starting from the families, communities, sub-parish, parishes and wherever we are, but above all to the Holy Spirit."

He remarked in the Holy Mass at Sacred Heart Cathedral Lubaga, attended by Wakiso District chairman, Matia Lwanga Bwanika, Lubaga Foundation Chairman, Dr Kasozi Mulindwa, Dr Charles Muweesi of Busitema University, Princess Eugenia Nassolo, Papal Dames among others.
