Toka kwa Barabara
loosely translated to mean 'get out of the way' hit singer Adam Mulwana, 36, has passed on.

The singer, who came to the limelight with the song praising former Forum for Democratic Change party president and presidential candidate Col. (rtd) Dr. Kizza Besigye, breathed his last at Doctor's Hospital Seguku where he had been admitted.

FDC president Patrick Amuriat Oboi eulogised Mulwana as a patriot, a fighter, a hero, and a foot soldier who used his God-given talent to champion democratic governance in this country.

"I visited Mulwana but he had grown weak by that time. Adam bravely battled the effects of poisoning that affected his liver," he said.

According to Besigye, Mulwana was a hero of the revolution who will never see its fruit.

“It is sad that I have lost a friend, a comrade, and a revolutionary son who never reached the promised land. Together, we are praying for his soul and we are saddened by his passing,” Besigye said on Tuesday.

Mulwana's Toka Kwa Barabara was the answer to President Yoweri Museveni's personal 2011 presidential campaign song: You Want Another Rap? for FDC, which Mulwana went on to compose for Besigye.

Mulwana brings memories of fallen bush war heroes like Sgt Kifulugunyu who composed many National Resistance Army songs that morale-boasted soldiers of the struggle commanded by President Museveni.

“Mulwana was special because he lit the whole country with his soul-touching message to Ugandans yearning for change. He will forever be our inspiration for democracy,” he said.

Mulwana who has been moving from one health facility to another due to the ailing conditions after he was diagnosed with cancer has been receiving help from Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party leaders and well-wishers until his death.

“He suffered the disease a year after the 2016 general election concluded which showed that there was some foul play involved. At the time of his death, he was battling liver disease complications,” the former National Political Mobilier for the FDC party, Ingrid Turinawe, said.

“It’s very sad news for the loss of our great friend Adam Murwaana TOKA KWA BARA BARA. May your soul rest in peace,” she posted on X, formerly Twitter.

The song was used by the FDC party during Besigye’s national campaigns in the 2016 general election where he came second to President Museveni.

Mulwana shall be laid to rest on February 14, 2024, at their home in Butambala.

At 4:00 pm today, his body shall be brought to the National Theatre for the public to pay their last respects, with burial scheduled for tomorrow at 2:00 pm in Buziranduulu, Butambala district.
