The highly respected parish priest of Christ the King Church, the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Gerald Kalumba has asked Christians to put their Christian faith in action by humbling themselves before their brethren.

Referring to Jesus Christ who washed his disciples’ feet on Holy Thursday, Kalumba cautioned Christians against self-exaltation. He rather advised them to serve each other in Christian humility and love.

“When Jesus washed the feet of his disciples, he taught us humility and service. We should always be at the service of our brothers and sisters. We should also serve in humility and love. Leadership should be a vocation of service not a tool of oppression, domination, or exploitation,” Kalumba said.

He was presiding over the evening mass at Christ the King Church, Kampala on Holy Thursday.

During the massively attended mass, Msgr. Kalumba washed the feet of 12 Christians, a Catholic ritual that signifies the participation of Christians in Christ’s mission of love and service to one another and those in need. The ritual is an imitation of Jesus’ love for his disciples. He demonstrated this love when he washed the feet of the disciples (John 13:1-17).

The mass was concelebrated by a number of other Catholic clerics including Fr. Joseph Luzindana, Fr. Remegius Sserugga and Fr. Joseph Mary Ssebunnya.

Christ the King Church Choirs Association led the singing during the mass.
