Bamunanika County Member of Parliament (MP), Robert Ssekitoleko, has vowed to continue lobbying for the improvement of the healthcare system in the area.

He made the remarks while handing over health utilities, and mattresses among others to Wabusaana Health Centre III in Kikyusa sub-county on Sunday.

“My efforts are going to be geared towards bringing services closer to you. I don’t have money to buy ambulances but what I am labouring hard to do is to have our health facilities well-equipped so that you don’t need to travel long distances,” said Ssekitoleko.

Recently, Wabusaana got seven out-patient beds but without mattresses. Ssekitoleko gave them five and promised to bring the remaining two.

Denis Kizza, the health centre’s Senior Clinical officer, thanked the legislator for his gesture, but also informed him about the lack of housing for medical personnel.

“We have 17 personnel whom we would like to stay here, but we lack houses. We have one which has been self-contained and we decided to partition it and get three rooms so that three personnel can use them as we wait for a solution for the remaining 14 staff,” Kizza elaborated.

Ssalongo Charles Muwonge, the chairperson of the health centre’s management committee, noted that it was high time the government thought of upgrading the health facility because it now handles many cases.

Started in the 1960s as a leprosy centre, Wabusaana Health Centre III now handles 80 out-patients and delivers an average of 75 mothers per month. Kibengo Health Centre III is another government facility in Kikyusa sub-county.

At Holy Cross Health Centre, a Roman Catholic church facility in Kikyusa, Ssekitoleko handed over sh3m to Sr. Mary Adela Niwahereza, its in-charge, to aid them in improving their dental care department.

Ssekitoleko was in the company of over 15 MPs under their umbrella association dubbed G20. Under the association chaired by Nakifuma MP, Fred Kaggwa Ssimbwa, the MPs visit each other’s constituency and support community work therein.

The MPs handed over 13 mattresses to Kamira Health Centre III in Kamira sub-county. Here, Ssekitoleko rallied the electorate and the leadership in the area to work with him to develop the area.

Ssimbwa thanked Bamunanika residents for voting for a leader who is welcomed by leaders from all walks of life in the area, and who also has many friends in Parliament.

“We ask you to stick with your MP because he has proved himself as an able leader. We would like to continue pushing as we look for political change in our country,” Ssimbwa said.

Other members of Parliament who joined Ssekitoleko included; Allan Mayanja Ssebunya, Joyce Bagala, Hassan Kirumira Lukalidde, Fortunate Nantongo, Denis Ssekabira, Patrick Nsanja, Solo Kayemba, Hellen Nakimmuli-Kalangala, Hannington Wakayima, among others.
