Youth and children affairs minister, Balaam Barugahara, has urged the Muslim community in Masindi to avoid divisive activities if they are to remain united.
Barugahara gave the advice as he joined Muslims in celebrating Eid al-Fitr at Kihande Mosque in Masindi Municipality.
The minister emphasised the importance of unity among Masindi’s Muslims, urging them to look beyond their differences and work together for the greater good of their faith and society.
"Disunity among us weakens our bond and hinders our ability to thrive as a community," Barugahara stated as he addressed the congregation.
"We are all here with a shared purpose: to worship Allah and to uplift one another in faith and action. It is crucial that we stand together, not just as individuals, but as one united front that respects and resolves our differences," he added.
He reminded the attendees of Islam’s teachings, which emphasise brotherhood and solidarity.
The minister also addressed the challenges faced by Masindi’s Muslim community, from societal prejudices to economic hardships. He urged them to prioritise collective projects that could enhance the well-being of all, such as educational initiatives, community health programmes, and economic empowerment ventures.
"Our strength lies in our ability to come together and support one another. When we unite, we can achieve much more than we can individually," he noted.
Barugahara further advised them to always make wills to prevent conflicts among children and family members.
"Stop fighting for property left behind by the dead. Work for your own wealth and always love one another. Don't waste time fighting over earthly things," he advised.
Barugahara donated sh5m towards the improvement of Kihande Mosque.
Sheikh Yahaya Mugisa, the Masindi district khadi, also called on Muslims in the district to embrace government programmes aimed at fighting household poverty.
"Let’s embrace each and every programme aimed at fighting poverty," he said, also stressing the importance of unity among Masindi’s Muslims.
Hassim Ssekandi, the county sheikh for Masindi Municipality, noted that unity is always a priority for the Muslim community in Masindi, adding that whenever differences arise, they are resolved amicably.
