The Omax Omeda meeting reached its culmination at Serere S.S in Serere district on Saturday, featuring athletes competing in various athletics events. The annual event is organised by Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) as a tribute to the late Omax Omeda, who passed away in 2019.

In attendance were family members, friends, Serere district officials, and representatives from the Uganda Athletics Federation. Serere Woman Member of Parliament Hellen Adoa, also serving as the State Minister for Fisheries, graced the occasion as the guest of honour.

Adoa encouraged athletes to strive for purposeful lives, drawing inspiration from Omeda's impactful legacy, which left a profound mark on numerous athletes in Serere.

“I commend the UAF for commemorating Papa Omeda every year. When you positively affect others during your lifetime, your legacy endures. Papa's dedication to nurturing athletic talent, especially among underprivileged children, continues to be celebrated even in his absence,” Adoa expressed.

During his tenure, Omeda played a crucial role in establishing the Serere Athletics Association and served as the delegate for Serere within the Uganda Athletics Federation. The event attracts athletes from both school and elite levels, engaging in various track and field events.

Athletics coach Moses Asonya acknowledges the enduring influence of the late Omeda on the athletics community of Serere.

“The federation initiated this annual event to acknowledge Omeda's contributions to talent identification and development in Serere. Omeda's initiation of the Serere Athletics club prompted the necessity of this commemorative event,” Asonya emphasized.

The Omeda Family expressed gratitude to the UAF for organizing the annual event in honor of their late father.

Gilbert Omeda of the Omeda brothers noted the UAF's commitment to recognizing Omeda's sacrifices for the sport.

“Our father generously supported athletes from his resources, facilitating their education and training. As his children, we wholeheartedly supported his passion, and we are elated that his endeavors are remembered and cherished,” Omeda shared.

Now in its third edition, the Omax Omeda meeting continues to uphold the legacy of the late Omax Omeda, revered for his contributions to athletics development. The event serves a dual purpose: commemorating Omeda's achievements and identifying talent within the Serere district's athletic community.
