Arua tycoon Gule eulogised as patriot, unifier

ARUA - Thousands of mourners on Tuesday gathered at Arua Primary School playground in Arua city to bid farewell to a renowned businessman and National Resistance Movement (NRM) party cadre Hajji Gule Musa Nuru.

Gule, who succumbed to complications related to blood pressure and stroke at Victoria Hospital on Sunday, was also the husband to Yumbe District Woman Member of Parliament Avako Melisa Naima Gule.

During the Janaza prayers organised in memory of the late in Arua city, speakers eulogised Gule for his generosity, humility, sacrifice, selflessness and discipline amidst his riches.

Gule, who owned a string of businesses in Arua city, Yumbe and other parts of the West Nile region, was described by the mourners as a true patriot and great NRM mobiliser whose deeds are worth emulating for sustainability.

Earlier on, Arua Central Division Council eulogised the late during a special council session where they proposed to rename the go-down road in his memory.

While highlighting the rich biography of the late seen as the pillar of the family, Malik Drakuma, the brother of the deceased, commended the doctors from Yumbe Regional Referral Hospital, Mulago National Referral Hospital and Victoria Hospital for their efforts in trying to save their brother.

The Rt. Rev. Charles Collins Andaku, the Bishop of Madi and West Nile, described the late as a friendly, humble and kindhearted person who has supported churches throughout the diocese.

“The late has for several times fuelled my car and assisted many church projects in the diocese and really we are going to miss him a lot,” Andaku said.

Augustine Juruga, a retired headteacher and the chairperson Aringa Community in Arua city celebrated the life of the deceased for being a down to earth person who associated with all kinds of people regardless of social status, religion, ethnicity among others.

Arua Resident City Commissioner Charles Ichogor confirmed that the late was one of the people he profiled to meet following his strong background of mobilisation for the NRM government.

Grace Freedom Kwiyucwiny, the state minister for northern Uganda who also eulogized the late as simple, humble and generous business person and family man, challenged the mourners to use his death to reflect on their own lives in terms of their contribution to the community and nation at large.

Chief mourner President Yoweri Museveni, who was represented by privatisation state minister Evelyn Anite, contributed shillings 10 million, while the Parliament of Uganda contributed over shillings 50 million both in cash and in kind.

Hajii Gule was laid to rest at his ancestral home in Yumbe district on Tuesday. He is survived by several widows, 32 biological children and over 100 dependents.
