Arua prepares for return of ex-minister Bakoko

Preparations are underway for the return of Zoe Bakoko Bakoru, former Member of Parliament for Ayivu County and gender and labour minister.
Bakoko is expected back on April 13, 2025, after 16 years in self-imposed exile.
Speaking to the press in Arua on Monday, April 7, city leaders described her homecoming as a step towards unity and regional progress.
Arua city mayor, Wadri Sam Nyakua, expressed concern that divisions among the Lugbara people have hampered effective service delivery.
Arua resident city commissioner, Salim Kumakech, called on locals to welcome the former minister, describing her as a key player in the region’s development.
According to Draecabo Trinity Ceasor, chairperson of the organising committee, over 3,000 people are expected to attend the homecoming event at the Ayivu Division headquarters in Onduparaka on April 13, 2025.
In 2007, Bakoko fled to the US, seeking asylum over threats she said followed her claims of corruption in the National Social Security Fund.
