The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the Most Rev. Dr Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, has urged Christians to use the Easter season as a time to repent of their sins and forgive those who have wronged them in order to begin life afresh.

Kaziimba made the call while leading the Easter Sunday service at All Saints’ Cathedral in Kampala, where hundreds of believers gathered to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

He noted that this year’s Easter celebrations come at a time when the world is deeply troubled, citing ongoing wars in the Middle East and recent tragic incidents at home, including the reported killing of four children at a daycare centre in Ggaba.

“This Easter’s message is one of peace,” he said. “It calls us to forget the past, forgive one another, and start anew.”

The Archbishop emphasised that the resurrection of Jesus Christ brings hope and healing to a wounded world.

He said Christ’s victory over death is a reminder of God’s power to restore and renew lives, even in the midst of suffering.

He further highlighted that the resurrection demonstrates divine power, referencing how the stone was rolled away from Christ’s tomb. Kaziimba encouraged believers to trust fully in God, noting that divine protection surpasses any human effort.

“Easter is about God’s power, the power that enables us to overcome challenges at work, in marriage, and in our daily lives,” he said.

Kaziimba also stressed that Easter should inspire Christians to become witnesses of Christ’s resurrection by turning away from sin and living transformed lives. According to him, true change can only come through the power of the resurrection.

“It is only God’s power that can truly change people. Even with modern systems in place, wrongdoing such as theft still occurs. Transformation must come from within,” he said.

He added that the power of the resurrection teaches believers the importance of humility and sharing with others, urging them to overcome selfishness and ego.

“There are people whose egos must be crucified so they can develop hearts that care for others, the Church, and God’s work,” he said.

The Archbishop called on Christians to act as ambassadors of love, forgiveness, peace, and reconciliation in their communities. He urged them to allow God’s power to transform their lives, accept salvation, and repent so that His purpose may be fulfilled on earth.

The service began with vibrant praise and worship led by the cathedral choir, drawing the congregation into deeper spiritual reflection.

Among those who attended the service were Augustus Nuwagaba, David Bahati, Amos Nzeyi, Miria Matembe, and John Musinguzi Rujoki, among others.
