The Court of Appeal is set to hold a criminal appeals session at Mbale High Court, where 26 cases will be heard.

The session is scheduled to run from tomorrow, March 10, to Wednesday, March 12, 2025.

The court will be presided over by Justices Irene Mulyagonja, Margaret Tibulya, and Moses Kazibwe Kawumi.

The cause list signed by the Court’s Deputy Registrar, Lillian Bucyana, indicates that out of the 26 appeals scheduled for hearing, murder has the highest number, with 11 cases, followed by defilement with 10 cases, murder and aggravated robbery (2), rape (2), while grievous harm has one appeal.

The session will be officially opened by Deputy Chief Justice Richard Buteera.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions will be represented by Fatinah Nakafeero, Adrine Amanya, Lydia Adit, Kulu Idambi, Simon Peter Semalemba, Aliwali Kizito, Rose Tumuheise, Happiness Ainebyona, Joseph Kyomuhendo, Immaculate Angutoko, and Samali Wakholi.

The appellants will be represented by Agnes Eres Kanyago, Faith Luchivya, Edmund Nangulu, Geoffrey Nappa, Shafiki Ntuyo, and Agnes Wazemwa.

The appellants facing the most serious offences include Yokoyada Kamya and Patrick Manana, who were sentenced to death and life imprisonment, respectively, after they were found guilty of murder by the High Court.

Sulaiman Onanyang was also convicted of murder by the High Court and sentenced to 48 years’ imprisonment. However, he is challenging his sentence, arguing that the court failed to deduct the remand period.
