The Office of the Resident District Commissioner in Amuria district has blocked the operation of Ogwaunukon Market.

This follows an ongoing five-year court battle between Peter Opolot, also known as Eregu, and Willa sub-county over the ownership and operation of Ogwaunukon Market, located in Akisim parish, Willa sub-county.

The RDC’s office issued a directive halting the market’s operations, stating that it is situated on government land and lacks the required legal documentation to operate.

Amuria deputy RDC Jacob Jonga said that although the court has not yet delivered a ruling on the matter, the government has been conducting investigations. He noted that available evidence indicates that part of the land where the market is built belongs to the government.

Jonga added that the market will revert to its initial location to enable the government to collect revenue for public benefit.

However, Peter Opolot, in an interview with Etop Radio, said that although the RDC’s office has taken this step, the matter remains before the court, and he is confident the ruling will deliver justice.
