Uganda’s ambassador to Russia, Moses Kizige, has urged Ugandans to apply for Russian scholarships, saying the territory is safe despite the war with Ukraine.
Kizige says the number of university scholarship slots have been increased from 50 to 200 for the next intake, which commences in September 2026, while international vocational skilling scholarships total to 1,540, but limited to females aged between 18 and 22 years.
However, the ambassador says for one to ensure that they do not fall victim to conmen and fraudsters, Ugandans should send their applications through the Ugandan embassy in Moscow.
“The Russia/Ukraine war is only in Ukraine. Russia is now safe, Ugandans are encouraged to apply for University and International vocational skilling scholarships for the academic year 2026/2027,” Kizige told New Visionin an interview on New Year's Day.
This was during a fundraising ceremony for the compleition of the official residence of the Busoga Bishop at Jinja city-based Christ’s Cathedral Bugembe.
“Though the scholarships are for the next academic year, the deadline is January 15, 2026. You don’t need to pay anything, apart from vocational skilling where the applicant is required to pay a medical fee,” he said.
Kizige added that for vocational skilling, the successful applicants must undergo a mandatory course in Russian language on arrival.
“However, the good news is that you study while working and your initial pay is $450 (approximately shillings 1,575,000) and the more you grasp the Russian language, the more your salary is increased,” he said.
During the fundraising event, a total of shilllings 120 million was realised both in cash and pledges.
Meanwhile, while preaching to the congregation on New Year’s Day at Christ’s Cathedral, Busoga Bishop Prof. Grace Lubaale urged the congregants not to lose hope in 2026, stressing that, “With hope, all things are possible.”
However, he advised that for success, everyone needs to re-visit and re-examine themselves as to why success eludes them and in addition embrace hard work while avoiding laziness and envy.
