All taxi passengers feared dead after collision with bus in Kassanda

All passengers travelling in a taxi on the Mubende–Kampala route are feared dead following a collision on Sunday (February 8) at Kyakatebe village in Kyakatebe parish, Myanzi subcounty, Kassanda district, involving a Link bus, the Uganda Red Cross Society (URCS) has said.

URCS spokesperson Irene Nkasita confirmed that information received by the organisation indicated that “all bus occupants are safe, while everyone who was in the taxi died on spot.”

By press time, URCS teams had arrived at the scene, although the exact number of passengers who were in the ill-fated taxi had not yet been established.

However, videos seen by New Vision Online showed several passengers dead in their seats as a result of the impact. Several bodies, including those of children, had also been removed from the wreckage and laid on the tarmac.

Police had not yet commented on the accident by press time.
