A 10-man delegation of diplomats from Algeria, led by the Vice President Azouz Nasri, has arrived in the country to attend President Yoweri Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony slated for May 12, 2026, at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala.

President Museveni is set to be sworn in for a seventh term in office at Kololo, in a function expected to attract heads of state, members of revolutionary political parties in Africa, and local and international dignitaries.

The ceremony’s theme is "Protecting the gains, making a qualitative leap into high middle-income status", coming against the backdrop of President Museveni’s resounding victory in the 2026 elections.

Nasri, who also serves as the Algerian Senate Vice President, arrived Sunday, May 10, 2026, at 12:45 pm aboard a private jet and was welcomed by the State Minister for Trade, Fredrick Gume, and Uganda’s Ambassador to Algeria, John Chrysostom Alintuma Nsambu, during a colourful ceremony at Entebbe International Airport.

The delegation and dignitaries from Algeria are among the first to arrive in the country for President Museveni’s swearing-in ceremony. The delegation is also expected to hold economic and political discussions with President Museveni on Monday, May 11, according to Nsambu.

Uganda and Algeria are rapidly strengthening economic ties, focusing on agricultural trade, oil and gas, among other investments. Key initiatives include the export of coffee and powdered milk, as well as infrastructure development projects in Uganda.

Ahead of the ceremony, Tuesday has been declared a public holiday.

Milly Babalanda, the Minister in charge of the Presidency, said more than 30 international delegations and several revolutionary movements have confirmed their attendance at the inauguration.

Meanwhile, on Monday, the eve of the swearing-in ceremony, President Museveni is expected to deliver a special thank-you message at 8 pm following his January election victory.
