Christians of Sacred Heart of Jesus Adjumani parish in Adjumani district have been encouraged to reflect on the suffering of Christ as they marked Palm Sunday, ushering in Holy Week.

Hundreds of Christians gathered at the parish, waving palms and singing Hosanna in the Highest in a procession symbolising Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem.

While delivering his homily, Rev. Fr Toxon Ajiga Cirako, the parish priest, called on Christian faithful to look beyond the celebration and focus on its deeper meaning.

He emphasised that while Palm Sunday commemorates Jesus Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem, it also signifies the beginning of his journey of suffering, crucifixion and eventual triumph.

"Palm Sunday is not only about joy, but it is also a reminder of pain, sacrifice and love that Jesus showed for humanity. We are called to reflect on our lives today. Though we encounter many challenges, we should always have hope," he said.

Beatrice Konyio, a parishioner, welcomed the message, urging fellow Christians to remain hopeful in all situations as they live with faith in action.

"This reminds us Christians of the true journey to greatness in this world full of pride, but Christ showed as a different path of humanity, we should open our hearts for Christ and practice faith and action," she remarked.

Palm Sunday marks the beginning of a series of significant days in the Christian calendar, including Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter celebrations.
