ADF terrorists killed in eastern DRC, eight civilians rescued

The joint forces of the Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) on Saturday, January 20, 2024, killed three Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) terrorists and rescued five children and three women.
Major Bilal Katamba the Public Information Officer, UPDF Mountain Division/Operation Shujaa said the terrorists were killed during the ongoing joint operation against the ADF terrorists in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on Saturday.
“The eight people were rescued after a battle against the ADF on the West bank of River Lunah, in Matunguru Valley, North East of Maitatu, Irumu territory, Ituri Province in Eastern DRC,” Katamba said.
Maj. Katamba said the rescued women told the soldiers, that they were abducted by the ADF when they were ambushed and hit in a bus they were travelling in from Kamanda to Beni.
“The bus was hit at Ndalya on the November 5th of 2021. They had since been under captivity their rescued by the joint UPDF/FARDC forces,” he added.
The joint forces also recovered an RPG bomb and medicines that were being used by the rebels. The joint forces continue to pursue the rebels who are still on the run having been routed out of Mwalika Valley late last year by the joint forces, Maj. Katamba said.
He said the ADF, an affiliate of ISIS has committed several atrocities against Wanainchi in Eastern DRC and Uganda but that the joint forces were on their trail and they would soon be eliminated.
