ADF commander ‘Baghdad’ killed, says army

'Baghdad' was put out of action  on Thursday, April 4th  in an operation by the joint Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces/Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo in the ongoing Operation code-named "Shujaa."

OPERATION SHUJAA

The latest report from neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo indicates that the hitherto  notorious commander of the Allied Democratic Forces rebel group known as 'Baghdad' had been killed.

He was put out of action  on Thursday, April 4th  in an operation by the joint Uganda Peoples' Defence Forces/Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo in the ongoing Operation code-named "Shujaa." 

"Uganda People's Defence Forces' mobile squad under the 3 Mountain Battalion, operating together with FARDC troops, killed 'Baghdad' in the areas of Ambusire, Northwest of Tingwe, 16.5 km from Elengeti Town in Ituri province," reads a statement issued to the  press  a few hours ago  (Friday, April 5th).

Military intelligence reports that he hails from Kyazanga, greater Masaka, in Southwestern Uganda.

He adds, "The joint forces continue to hunt and mount pressure on the remnants of the ADF that split into small groups to evade the UPDF/FARDC's consistent and constant attacks.

Having been flushed out of Mwalika Valley in North Kivu in the last half of 2023, a reasonable number of the ADF remnants moved Northwest of Beni-Kamanda road in the general areas of Mambasa"

Katamba also distributed photos said to be of Baghdad's body.
