Abductors of Busia businessman demand sh15m ransom

Police are investigating a kidnapping incident in which a businessman was abducted by unknown assailants who are now demanding ransom.

The victim, 34-year-old Mubarak Rashid Magayani, was reportedly kidnapped in the early hours of March 18, 2026, from his home in Nangwe-Madibira Cell in Busia district.

Bukedi South regional police spokesperson Moses Mugwe said the victim received a distress call prompting him to step outside his gate, where he was forcibly bundled into a white vehicle by unidentified individuals.

“The kidnappers later contacted the victim’s relatives demanding sh15m for his release,” Mugwe said.

Police have since opened a case (Busia CRB 213/2026) and launched a search operation.

Authorities have appealed to the public to provide any information that could lead to the victim’s rescue.
